Car-free holidays in the south of France

Although many of our holidaymakers love how easy it is to drive to our French campsites from the UK, it’s equally possible to embrace the Siblu experience without a vehicle of your own. Hopping on a plane or a train with only your essential luggage allows you to wave goodbye to the stress of packing the car, navigating the roads of a foreign country, arguing with the GPS, and searching for parking spots. If you’re thinking of opting for the freedom of a car-less holiday this year then why not consider one of our three favourite destinations in the South of France: La Carabasse, Les Sables du Midi or Le Lac des Rêves.

La Carabasse

This stunning holiday village in the South of France has it all … and its unique location makes it a great choice for those without a car. The campsite is only a ten minute drive (a €20 taxi ride) from Béziers airport which has direct flights to and from London Luton, Manchester, Edinburgh and Bristol airports. Once at La Carabasse there’s no need to drive to get your fix of sun, sea and sand: direct access to the beach from the campsite means you can simply stroll from your mobile home to the Mediterranean. Five minutes’ walk in the other direction is the Vias Plage Europark funfair where you’ll find a range of rides and attractions for thrill-seekers of all ages. Make the most of the bike hire onsite and explore the beautiful network of cycle paths around the peaceful Canal du Midi.

Les Sables du Midi

Just like La Carabasse, Les Sables du Midi is only a short taxi ride from the easily-accessible Béziers airport. There are loads of activities to keep you entertained on-site: kids’ and teens’ clubs, an amazing pool complex, a health and wellbeing centre, restaurants, bars and evening entertainment. Les Sables du Midi is also within walking/cycling distance of the bustling seaside resort of Valras Plage where you’ll find a range of cafés and shops and, of course, the beach! It’s easy to get into the heart of nearby Béziers using public transport (there is a bus stop only 450m from the campsite). Béziers, part of the most ancient European towns network, is a picturesque city full of culture and history idyllically situated between sea and vineyards. From Béziers you can also get the train for a day trip in the stunning medieval city of Carcassonne.

Le Lac des Rêves

Although its position on the shores of the Lac de Pérol makes this holiday village seem a world away from city life, it’s actually only a ten-minute taxi ride from Montpellier airport (which has direct flight links to London Gatwick and London Luton) and less than a 30 minute journey from the bustling medieval streets of Montpellier itself. Montpellier’s brilliant public transport system means that a lack of car is no problem here. The tram Line 3 runs right from the Gare Saint Roche in the city centre to L’Etang d’Or in Pérols which is only a 20 minute walk from the campsite and a short bus ride from the Carnon Plage beach. Back onsite you might choose to hire bikes and explore the protected countryside round Le Lac des Rêves: vineyards, lakes, Le Canal de Midi… embrace the southern pace of life!
